The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch (Gentleman Bastard #1) ★★★★☆

Published: 2006

Format: eBook

Pages: 502

Genre: Fantasy

Locke Lamora is part of the Gentleman Bastards, a group of con-artists and thieves in the city of Camorr. Taught the trade since they were children, they are the best of the best. Until the Grey King comes along…

I had so much fun reading this book. While it is a fantasy novel, my favourite part of the novel was very much the ‘con-man’ theme. The way Scott Lynch pulled the set ups and tricks together was brilliant. I also really loved the characters throughout this, particularly the other members of the Gentleman Bastards.

To be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of ‘The Big Bad’ of this novel along with the over arching storyline building up to that. But it’s a testiment to the writing and the rest of the story that I still really loved the novel.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this and full recommend picking this up. Even if you’re not into the fantasy genre, I think it’s still worth checking this one up.
