Book Review: Dorothy Must Die

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige (Dorothy Must Die #1)

Published: 2014

Format: eBook

Pages: 432

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

We’re all familiar with ‘The Wizard of Oz’. But Dorothy Must Die tells us what happened next. When Amy Gumm is transported to Oz via a tornado she discovers that after getting home Dorothy returned to Oz where she was crowned a princess. But the power went to her head and Oz isn’t like it used to be. The Revolutionary Order of the Wicked believes that in order to make it safe again DOROTHY MUST DIE.

I loved the concept of this. The way the familiar elements such as the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion were twisted were great and it was fun to read.

But unfortunately for me the story overall fell a bit flat. While it was enjoyable it was also forgettable, and I was never particularly invested in the plot or the characters.

It wasn’t a terrible book, rather ‘meh’. Worth a try if it interests you, it definitely has it’s fans, but I personally won’t be continuing with the series.
