The Steampunk Chronicles follows Finely Jayne a 16 year old Victorian Girl in England in the 1890’s. But Finely is no ordinary girl: she has a darker side which makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch. She is alone in the world until Griffin King recognises her as one of them and invites her to join his band of misfits. In this, the second in the series the group have travelled to New York in order to rescue a friend.

I loved book 1 The Girl in the Steel Corset and was excited to finally get around to reading the sequel. And I really enjoyed it. I love the setting of the 1800’s with the added science fiction element. The characters are great and Finely Jayne is a brilliant protagonist. I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as book 1 however. There were definitely cliches throughout this book and a lot of the things that happened seemed kind of convenient or just put there to add a bit of action. But it was a fun read and I’ll be continuing on with the series.
