Book Review: Cress by Marissa Meyer

Cress by Marissa Meyer

Cress by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles #3)

Published: 2014

Format: Paperback

Pages: 550

Genre: Dystopian, Retelling, Young Adult

The Lunar Chronicles follows a group of characters in the distant future. Tensions are running high between the Earth and the Moon, with Lunar Queen Lavana plotting to gain power on Earth through Prince Kai. Each of the books in the series follows a different character based on a fairy tale. In Cress this is Rapunzal, a Lunar hacker under the control on Queen Levana. I won’t got into any more detail on this book as it is the 3rd in the series!

I’m enjoying this series, I really enjoy the world building with more and more being revealed to us in each book. It’s also a great story, with some fantastic female characters who are all very different to each other.

This story is told through multiple perspectives, and as with the majority of books written like this it’s easy to have your favourites. For me that’s Scarlet, meaning my favourite of this series is always going to be book 2 (Scarlet). But I did enjoy Cress and she’s a great character in her own right.

I will definitely be checking out book number 4 Winter.

If you’ve read this series, which is your favourite?
